Medical microneedling

As we age, the skin can become dehydrated, fragile and thin. It can take on a crêpey appearance and lines and wrinkles, pigmentation and skin sagging can occur. The remanence of previous skin conditions such as acne or trauma such as scars can also appear, due to the degradation and weakening of the skin’s layers. At Sean White Aesthetics in Herne Hill near Dulwich Village, we offer medical microneedling to treat a variety of skin concerns and to restore and revitalise the skin layers for a more toned, youthful complexion.

What is medical microneedling?

Medical microneedling utilises a hand-held device with small needles which create tiny pin-pricks into the skin. The tiny pins create a skin trauma and this encourages a wound-healing response, which stimulates the production of new collagen, within the dermis. Collagen is a substance that can be lost as we age and is responsible for plump, resilient skin.

Which skin conditions can be treated with skin needling?

  • Fine and deeper lines and wrinkles
  • Pigmentation (sun-damage, age spots)
  • Scars (trauma, burn or acne scars)
  • Thin, crêpey skin
  • Dull and dehydrated skin
  • Stretch marks

Am I suitable for medical microneedling?

Most people can experience significant skin benefits from medical microneedling. However, we will always request for you to attend a no obligation skin consultation at Sean White Aesthetics, prior to any treatment being carried out to assess your individual skin concerns, discuss potential results and check your medical history.

What happens during a medical microneedling treatment?

This minimally-invasive treatment involves passing a hand held skin-needling device across the areas of the face or body to be treated. The fine needles will prick the skin to up to 2mm deep, leaving tiny wounds and micro-channels. Before the treatment, your skin will be cleansed thoroughly. After the procedure, the practitioner may decide to apply a specially tailored serum containing peptides and vitamins. The serum is deeply absorbed by the skin due to the micro-channels which are created by the skin needling process.

Does skin needling hurt?

You may feel a slight pulling or pricking sensation during a medical microneedling treatment. However, this is quite tolerable. If your skin is particularly sensitive and you are concerned, a topical anaesthetic can be applied before the treatment.

When will I see the results from medical microneedling?

Significant improvement in skin tone and texture may be seen in as little as 2 weeks, post-procedure and as long as 6 to 8 months after your course of treatment. Burn scars will most likely take longer to improve and it could take up to between 6 months and 1 year to see the final results.

How many medical microneedling treatments will I need?

Best results are usually experienced after a course of treatments and we recommend that they are repeated every 4 to 6 weeks until the desired results are achieved. However, every patient has their own unique requirements. Therefore, your suggested course will be discussed in your pre-treatment consultation here at Sean White Aesthetics and will be bespoke to your individual skin concerns and requirements.

How long do results last?

Longevity of results will depend on your own skin’s response to the treatment, as well as your lifestyle and how you take care of your skin following the treatment. If you take care of your skin, eat a healthy diet and drink plenty of water, the results from microneedling can last anything up to 12 months. Should you expose your skin to excessive sunlight, smoke or do not use good quality skincare, you may need to return to the clinic for treatment sooner. We recommend maintenance treatments every 6 to 12 months to maintain the superb results that medical microneedling can achieve.
