Anti-wrinkle Injections

As we get older, expression lines and dynamic wrinkles can start to make us look and feel less than our best. Serums and face creams can only do so much for our skin and when expression lines and wrinkles start to appear, we may feel that it’s time to take action to improve our sense of wellbeing and maintain a youthful-looking complexion. Injectable wrinkle-smoothing injections (Botox) are highly-effective for the temporary reduction of lines and wrinkles that are caused when we create facial expressions and are available here at Sean White Aesthetics in Herne Hill, London.

What are Botox injections?

Botox is commonly known as the treatment name for wrinkle-smoothing injections. It’s actually the brand name for a substance called Botulinum Toxin Type A. This prescribed medicine has been used for a variety of conditions which involve involuntary muscle movement since the 1970s and was approved as a safe substance to be injected for anti-aging purposes in the 80’s. Botox is a neurotoxin that blocks the nerve receptors which cause expression lines and wrinkles. It has a temporary effect when injected in to the facial muscles by relaxing them and preventing expression lines from forming. Botox can only legally be prescribed and injected by a fully-qualified medical professional.

Am I suitable for Botox injections?

Most people with mild to moderate dynamic lines and wrinkles can benefit from Botox injections. However, it’s important to discuss your requirements as well as disclose your medical history in an initial consultation here at Sean White Aesthetics, prior to any treatment being carried out. This ensures that we are certain that the treatment will be right for you and that you have no contraindications that will prevent you from having the procedure.

What happens during a Botox treatment?

Botox injections are relatively straightforward for a medically-trained professional such as Sean White to administer. You won’t need an anaesthetic as the needles used are extremely fine. After completing your consultation form and consent paper, Sean will mark with a facial pencil, the areas to be treated (you’ll be asked to make several expressions so he can see where the injection sites are best positioned). Depending on how many areas you are having treated, a series of injections will be placed in various regions and tiny doses of the Botox will be administered. This will take around 10 to 15 minutes and afterwards you’ll be given some aftercare advice to follow. You can return to your daily activities immediately and will not need any recovery time.

Which areas can be treated by Botox?

Crow’s feet (lines around the eyes)

Glabellar lines (the lines on the forehead between the eyebrows)

Forehead lines

Bunny lines (down the sides of the nose)

Masseter (using Botox in the jaw assists with teeth grinding and can soften the facial shape)

Cobbled chin

Eyebrow ‘lift’ (around the brows and in the hairline)

Will I look ‘surprised’ or ‘fake’ with Botox?

It’s a question we are asked every day and there is always a little concern and apprehension around this treatment, due to some horror stories in the media and on TV. However, Sean White is a highly-skilled and competent facial specialist who carefully considers every aspect of your face before treating you. He believes in creating natural results as opposed to the ‘frozen’ look and uses precision and artistry in order to bring you beautiful results without looking overdone. Technique is everything with Botox injections and you can be confident that at Sean White Aesthetics, we believe in achieving results that are still ‘you’ only ‘better’.

When will I see results?

The initial results can be seen from around 24 hours, post-procedure. However, expect the optimum results to be seen around 2 weeks after your treatment, after which, you can return to the clinic for a ‘top up’ if needed.

How long will results last?

This is a golden question as it really depends on how you respond to the treatment as an individual. Botox does not ‘stay’ in the facial muscles and is metabolised by the body quite quickly. The results are what is left behind by the response of the facial muscles and everyone is unique in how long these results last. For some people, results can last up to 8 months. Others, it can be around 3 months before they need another treatment. We recommend Botox to be administered no more than 3 times in a 12 month period.
