PRP for face and hair

Beautiful and healthy skin and hair is something we all want to possess, but sometimes, the ageing process and certain medical conditions can make our skin and our hair suffer. If you are someone who favours a natural approach to anti-ageing or hair restoration, a revolutionary treatment called PRP, is now available here at Sean White Aesthetics in Herne Hill, near Dulwich.

What is PRP for face and hair?

PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. It is an injectable treatment which has been used to heal wounds for many years and uses your own bodily resources. Due to the success of this treatment for its healing properties, PRP is now widely used in cosmetic medicine for the rejuvenation of the skin and hair restoration. As PRP utilises the natural components of your own body, it is a more natural approach to anti-ageing and hair stimulation than some injectable treatments. A treatment using PRP, primarily stimulates the production of vital substances such as collagen, elastin and the growth of cells within the skin. PRP also improves hydration of the cells and blood supply to the skin, thus improving it’s tone and texture as well as offering a more youthful complexion.

What happens during a PRP treatment?

A sample of blood will be taken from your arm, just like having a routine blood test. The blood sample is then placed into a centrifuge which separates the PRP from the blood. The purified PRP is then carefully injected into the areas of concern, whether for the face or the hair. As the PRP starts to work, certain growth factors and regenerative molecules are released, increasing collagen and elastin as well as cellular growth and healing. The result is skin that is rejuvenated, resilient and more youthful in its appearance and stimulation of the hair follicles.

A course of PRP can treat the following concerns:

  • Sun damaged and dehydrated skin
  • Lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Dull, dehydrated skin
  • Dark under-eye circles
  • Hair loss through stress, medication or other conditions

Does PRP hurt?

As with any injectable treatment, there can be some level of discomfort, depending on your individual tolerances and the area being treated. As PRP is a substance gained from your own body, any side-effects and adverse reactions are extremely rare. You may experience some swelling, redness or tenderness at the injection sites but this is quite normal and will subside in a few days.

How many PRP treatments do I need?

Usually, a PRP treatment is carried out in a course of 3 sessions; 4 to 6 weeks apart. Maintenance treatments are generally recommended every 6 to 12 months. Depending on your individual requirements, you will be given an idea of how many treatments you will need, at your no obligation consultation.

When will I see results?

Many people can experience results for the skin a few weeks after their initial PRP treatment. With hair, it is somewhat different, as hair can take several months to grow through. In both cases, a course of treatment is recommended for optimum results.

How long do results last?

Results with PRP vary according to the individual and the area being treated. For the face, results can last anything up to 12 months, after which, a top up treatment is then recommended. For hair, the results can be permanent, though again, a top up treatment may be required once annually.
